A measure of Eternity

My fingers spray a current dense
Of diamond stars about your feet
Angelic being, It's you I sense
The light that makes my world complete
For up I bring the stars 'round you
Gleaming Bright above your head
You asked I show you something true
Upstairs to heaven you were led

I raise you to the highest stage
the theatre of the humble gods
you give a show to make an age
to shatter sunshine's golden rods
those rays that warm the lightest heart
fall into naught 'ere you depart

I'm writing songs and building bridges
I fear no tune or land will join
my longest bridge, no other side
and but one face upon this coin
my words possess no buoyancy
are sinking tuneless in the sea

watch paper burn
watch bridges crumble
sick are gods that once were humble
watch my theatre burning down
beauty melting to the ground
light is fragile, so it seems
twisted will become my dreams
Light is bent when through the glass
all was gold and now is brass

A statue doesn't stand as long
to hear the start and end of song
that sung by angels, laws of fate
as we destroy and we create
we name "forever" that which lasts
though that is not enough
forever's many, often pass
begin and end so rough

and bigger does the mind make things
the mind so small with thoughtless rings
of bells they call eternity
it's just the edge of what they see
and sight no further penetrates
eternal loves, eternal hates
they all do end, they all do start
not everlasting is the the heart
